Spring  Semester 2001

Course Description: The course reviews four of the on-going struggles for equality and freedom in America: the Native American Struggle, the African American Struggle, the Women's Struggle, and the Gay/Lesbian Struggle. Each struggle is considered in relation to the larger historical context out of which it has arisen, and all are discussed with a view [1] to gaining an informed appreciation of how they resemble and differ from one another morally, politically and historically and [2] to examining whether the respective struggles have gone too far or not far enough.

Meeting times and places: The class meets both in a lecture setting and in smaller discussion groups from 3:40-4:55 on Mondays and Wednesdays. All classes are held in Winston  #005

Text: A course reader, The Moral Community: The Struggle for Equality and Freedom in America. [Available at NCSU book store].
